Seattle Blues #2: Lindy hop sickness.

Before I start today, I need to introduce myself as a dancer. I am a fourth-year swing dancer who mainly specialized in Lindy Hop. In my junior year of undergraduate school, I learned Argentine Tango from Cholo Kang, one of the promising professional tango dancer of Korea. However I felt that this was not a form of dancing style that I have been pursuing for. Therefore I stopped to learn it more.

After entering the KAIST as a graduate student (Master Course), I tried to find another local dancing club in order to seek my eagerness about dance. Coincidentally, I was able to join the Jitterbug Class of the 'SWING FEVER' of Daejeon, a largest local swing dancing community in Daejeon, even in Korea. I found it was casual and allows more freedom in expressing my feelings in my own style. I started in 2014, from the instructor Mr. Joong-sup Lim (as known as C-sup) and Miss Geum-rok Oh (as known as Arong). Step along with the courseworks given by the society, I arrived at the class given by Mr. Soochan Lee and Miss Hyunjung Choi, the champions of the 2014 Hellzapoppin' and invited instructor / dancer of the many international lindy hop festivals. As I sincerely followed the instructions, on the other hand, I tried to find my unique movement and styles to make difference from other cohorts.

Finally, I was able to award 2nd place in the local lindy hop competition, which is called 'BATTLE FEVER', as a Rookie Dancer.

Time passes, and I was hard to go dancing because I have a lots of works to do in order to finish my master's course and to apply for the PhD program in the United States. Living busy, I found alternative ways to enjoy swing dance: it was 1) photography, 2) live jazz band guitarist, and 3) DJing.

Since I was a trained guitarist, as well as amateur musician, I was selected by the Dr. Sunhong Jun, who is my senior associate in Korea University and KAIST, and took a role as lead classical guitarist. In further, from the experience of guest senior photographer in Korea University Cheerleading Team, I took another role as a photography staff of the society.

At the beginning of 2016, I was offered another interesting position- it was Disc Jockey. Since I was interested about the Swing Jazz, and have a relevant experience by serving as a guitarist in the Swing Jazz Band, I accepted that suggestion and served as DJ for one years, until my departure to the USA.

Afterwards, at the another beginning of 2016, I tried to learn BLUES from Mr. Youngdon Kwon (AKA REAL) and Mrs. Dawa Jung (AKA LOVELY). It was very lucky because I need more smooth and somewhat voluptuous method and styles to express my deeper emotions about dance. Blues was fun, sometimes too sexy to resist.

Seattle is very good city to dance. There are seven days of social dancing. But now I am not able to attend the social dance cuz I have so many things to do as a 1st year PhD student. I need to properly distinguish the things I want to do and I need to do. That is the rule of priority I learned from my father and mother, as well as from my graduate advisor, Professor Dr. Tae Seok Seo.

Anyway, although I know the priority rule, I still hunger for dancing. The joy of dancing is extraordinary pleasant. I can feel, move, and express along with my emotions as well as my desire. Through dance, I can interact with the people who never know me before.

Maybe, I will go dancing on this weekend.

Daily Photo #1: Focus on unimportant things

On the way of Morning Running course. I may miss some landscape around myself. There are lots of beauty, and lots of things which deserve to observe closer. To focus on the things which you have been regarded as not important. You can find another wonder from them, even in a typical rocks on the street.

Introduction

To start my private blog, I would like to provide my personal information for your convenience. Greetings. My name is Kyung-Hoon Kim, whose English name is Harold (Harry). Once I was Daniel, but I decided to exchange cuz there are so many Daniels in Korea. I am a doctoral student of Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington. Thus I live in Seattle now, enjoying the rainy atmosphere and some kind of feeling like stranger (and actually I am). I started my PhD track since September 2017, and I'm struggling pretty much since I have no experience about the life of Statesman. I received my master's degree and bachelor's degree in the Chemical Engineering, from KAIST and Korea University respectively. My concentration in undergraduate school was biological engineering and science, and my major was microfluidic cellular engineering (particularly molecular delivery) which was published in Small 2015. After my graduation, I joined Nanobio Application T...

Seattle Blues #1: Don't be arrogant.

Since I believe that I am well-trained researcher compared to same-level-researcher who hold master's degree, and just got entered in doctoral course, I think I might be arrogant pretty much. I know I had a hard and intensive days in KAIST for two years, and got qualified knowledge and methodology for another two years in NNFC. But I can remind that I was not such intensive person in the very end of my Korean days, almost half of the years in 2017.  Yesterday, I recognized that this is not a chemical engineering!!!!!!!!! It was totally BioE!! I could never understood the terms given in the lecture, particularly focused on protein folding, aggregation, and relevant topics. However, in contrast to me, my another group members were able to understand and even they could discuss with each other, without any trouble or hardships. Among four members, I even felt somewhat lonely. Yeah. Finally I realized that I was very arrogant. Since I had multiple research experience, I unconsci...
